Both Margarita and I took our families to Lakes of Wasaga last year during the summer so we have first hand experience with how much fun your family can have at Parkbridge Resorts. From mini golfing to special event dinners and corn roasts, to swimming, exploring and using a paddle boat on the lake at Lakes of Wasaga, Parkbridge has no shortage of things to keep your entire family active. Happy New Year and Our Hopes for 2015

1414802_10151943804420269_846153740_n

Hello and Happy New Year to all of our friends and loyal brands we have worked with over this past two and a half years.  Hard to believe, but this will be our third year working together as Linked Moms community. We are so proud of this beautiful community we have built. We wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has been with us from the start and welcome to the newcomers who are excited about joining us this year. 2015 will be an amazing year for us!

These are a few of the brands and causes we have worked with in the past year.

Linked Moms (and Dads) are savvy and smart and they want information. We know our readers well and they are a passionate bunch who love to read. Linked Moms and Dads are somewhat nostalgic when it comes to certain brands like Kisko. Remember that twitter party over a year ago? It was a ton of fun. We are also a batch of informed consumers hungry for knowledge. We joined together to learn about Staples Canada’s back to school products last year. Our Linked Moms and Dads make smart choices with their money and they enjoy learning about new products. They love travelling and they really have big hearts.

One of our most successful chats was centred around tax season with our special guest, owner of Shoebox Be Gone dishing our thoughts on how to save money and maximize deductions for bloggers and self employed business people.

This past year, in 2014, we did several great twitter parties and chats. Some of the most memorable topics were focused on health care – infertility, adoption and poverty are incredibly close to the hearts of both Margarita Ibbott and myself (Paula Schuck). Paula travelled around the world and attended a media familiarization trip in Puerto Vallarta and then flew all over Colombia with World Vision Canada before chronicling the journey on her blog and then running World Vision Canada’s blogger outreach program, which culminated in a Linked Moms twitter party for their annual Christmas gift catalogue. You can read some of Paula’s World Vision Colombia posts here.

We are both Moms to kids with special needs. We have a wealth of knowledge about social media, bloggers, health, education and parenting. We both love to read and travel. This year we attended Blissdom together again. I also attended Blogher in California in the summer and I hit Mom 2.0 for the first time ever in May. We have some conferences and personal education opportunities to look forward to again this year. We hope to see some of you again and meet some of you in person for the first time.

In the summer we hosted a Simon and Schuster summer slide twitter party.

FbBox_SummerSlide-1_thumb.png

In the spring we did a constant group of health care related topics with several patients groups focused on raising awareness for infertility, IVF, adoption and EEVA1stBC. We are very committed to building a better world for children and our conversations on line are often centred on using social media for social good. That will never change here at Linked Moms. It is part of our mission and a huge part of each of our daily lives. In 2014, our year culminated in a meaningful gifts twitter party that helped amplify discussion about child poverty and the brilliant goals of World Vision Canada.

LinkedMoms Anniversary

LinkedMoms_Graphic

Happy Anniversary to our community of LinkedMoms!

Here I was (@inkscrblr) tinkering around today working out chat topics and doing routine blog maintenance when I spied that our welcome post here was written one year ago today. So, this is our anniversary and I felt it appropriate to take a quick trip down memory lane. Oh how far we’ve come since last year.

To be 100 % clear we started LinkedMoms concept well over one year ago, but our Linked Moms blog launched October 23, 2012! You can read our Linked Moms welcome post here. It gives you a glimpse of what we are about!

So much has happened in one year! We have some amazing fans and followers to thank for that!

Let’s recap shall we? We started with an idea – that Moms want to connect and share every week and we ran with it, every Wednesday. Some of our biggest, early supporters still chime in every week. We love each and every one of you for that. We are truly grateful. We have shared some deep topics – like special needs parenting. Margarita Ibbott and Paula Schuck are both parents to children with unique abilities and needs. So we get that. We always have and always will. We have talked about some simpler topics like conference planning, turkey recipes and fun ideas for summer day camps and travel options for families. We are always family friendly and will remain so forever. We have had some amazing weekly chats _ sometimes sponsored, sometimes just opportunities to connect and share. We have grown, given out prizes, built an audience, generated some campaigns and a few case studies along the way.@Inkscrblr and @DownshiftingPRO = @Linkedmoms

Several highlights jump out for LinkedMoms first year. We travelled together to sooo many conferences. We connected and enjoyed New York in 2012 and Chicago Blogher in 2013. We generated a gorgeous new photo above from Anna Epp Photography when she set up shop recently at Blissdom Canada in Toronto. We love it. What do you think?

We also hit a business high with several twitter parties. Two outstanding parties were Staples Canada in August 2013 and Kisko Freezies in May 2013. We have many more in the works. We did a quick blogger outreach program with StorageWorx London and we can’t ait to bring you more of these in the near future. So bloggers and brands get ready for a dynamite year two of blogging and connecting here on Linked Moms. Join us every Wednesday (unless otherwise noted) and we will talk, share strategies for business and life. We will continue to bring you more brands and prizes and more information to help you build a life that is meaningful, organized and sometimes even witty and poetic! As always please remember we are only as good as our audience and we very much look forward to hearing your thoughts about brands you love and ideas you want to explore.

For Brands: You can sponsor a chat, inquire about rates and training options. You can reach us easily here, or via either of our emails: inkscrblr@rogers.com or info@downshifting.ca Our reach is now over 8 million regularly.

#Easter #LinkedMoms Chat Tonight

IMG_0785

Happy First Day of Spring! Clearly, my daughter looks a little less than impressed with the get up I put on her a couple of years ago. No, I am not some crazy mama that dresses up her kids and pets just for a laugh. Or am I? Well, I guess you need to come to our chat tonight to find out. I am super excited for March to explode into April showers and flowers and Easter because honestly I am tired of the cold weather. It’s so snowy here still. But at the same time it hasn’t been consistently cold enough to have endless hours of skating fun and hot chocolate and tubing. I say if you are going to live in Canada and do winter embrace it with zest and passion. So typically in years gone by we have spent hours skating outdoors. Well, this year all the rinks melted. While my kids got to go tobogganing I did not. It was a dud of a winter and now it has overstayed its welcome. So I say bring on the spring weather and let’s chat all things Easter. Bunnies and chocolate and special meals and family, and even an Easter Egg hunt. Bring it on. Bring your pins and posts and tips and thoughts to our twitter chat tonight. Let’s talk Easter!

I can’t wait to share some of the incredible pins I am pinning to my Spring Showers Pinterest board. What will you be doing this Easter?

LinkedMoms Learning Toys Twitter Party March 6th

Image

LinkedMOMs are celebrating spring and March break with a Learning Toys Canada Twitter Party. Join @inkscrblr @linkedmoms and @downshiftingPRO as we launch @learningtoys_ca on social media and give away a few prizes too.

We know how you all love a great twitter party.

This one is Wednesday, March 6th, 2013 at 8 p.m. EST on twitter. (That’s the regular Linked Moms chat time and we are the happy hosts.)

There will be four great prizes given away during the one hour chat. All toys your children will love. Learning Toys is a caring Canadian company http://www.twitter.com/learningtoys_ca whose owners I have come to adore. These are ladies who believe quality toys last and are timeless as well. This is a company that believes in giving back and stocking toys that are socially responsible and environmentally responsible too. Nothing here falls apart after one use.

Learning Toys Canada has a philosophy of play that goes like this – parents help power their children’s play. How do they do that? By providing opportunities to explore, engage and learn, by stocking a child’s room and life with toys that are good quality and designed to spur creativity, build their abilities and help grow strong brains and bodies.

Learning Toys Canada has a great site that has been around for quite some time and has two walk in storefront locations. One is in Mississauga and the other is in Montreal (Westmount). The site itself stocks great brands like Plan Toys, which is an industry pioneer in manufacturing socially and environmentally responsible products. There is a little bit of everything here from Bruder toys to Calico Critters and science kits. Oh, and can’t forget those Kettler tricycles which are perfect for spring!! Learning Toys Canada celebrates differences and stocks a great number of sensory toys and various items for special needs children. (I confess this is what makes me love them even more. Their toys help build everyone’s abilities.) Toys are clearly labelled by category of age, Brand, and play style.

Learning Toys Canada also stocks the full line of Wimmer Ferguson Infant Stim Mobiles, which are completely washable and sterilizable. They also appeal to children who have visual impairments. Learning Toys Canada has donated several of the stim mobiles to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. The Wimmer Ferguson stim mobile is one of the only choices for hospitals like Sick Kids because it is completely washable and can be sterilized.

Join us on March 6th at 8 p.m. EST to learn even more about Learning Toys. Please leave a comment here, or on one of our blogs http://www.thriftymommastips.com/

RSVP – prizes are only open to Canadians. See you there.

The prizes are: Calico Critters, Plan Toys firetruck, Plus Plus Midi or Mini (depending on the age of your child) super hot building toys and my favourite – a Kimochis Cat. Kimochis is Japanese for feelings and each one of these stuffed toys also comes with three stuffed emotions that help facilitate communication about difficult topics like sadness, or how do you get over having your feelings hurt.

Please show Learning Toys. ca some love.

Visit their web site, like them on Facebook, follow their Pinterest boards and follow them on twitter.

To win: You have to be at the party actively taking part. Please follow @linkedmoms @inkscrblr @learningtoys_ca and @downshiftingPRO You will need to answer questions. You need to RSVP here in this link so we know who to expect. Leave a comment here too please, just to be nice (not necessary to win) You must be Canadian to win, but Americans are welcome to take part in the party.

Party hosts not responsible for shipping.

March Break Madness – #linkedMoms

It’s almost time. Can you believe it? How is it possible that it’s almost March Break?

Well, regardless of where the last two months have gone, the fact is March Break is right around the corner and what on earth are you to do with all that spare time? (Chuckle)

Well, there isn’t any spare time here at my house. For sure. My oldest daughter, Payton, performs with Original Kids and she is in the March break run of The Little Mermaid Junior Musical. So we have been there every week for the last two months – three days a week – and the play is almost ready for the big reveal. Well, I hope it is anyways. Fingers crossed and break a leg etc. (Wait now I know where my time went. Three days a week, two months, You do the math.)

Tonight @downshiftingpro and I @inkscrblr hit the twitter circuit again with the LinkedMOMs chat at 8 p.m. EST. So bring your best ideas, links thoughts and concepts. We want to know what are you doing for March break? Sigh _ I wish I were heading off on a plane to some exotic locale. But that’s another chat, another time, same channel.

Are you in a play, like my daughter? Or a tournament like my husband and other daughter? Will your kids chill? Or head off to day camp? Will you travel? Sightsee? Head to Nasa like we did two years ago. Or hit a museum exhibit like we did one March break when the amazing King Tut exhibit was in Toronto at the AGM.

Maybe you will find yourself walking Las Vegas Boulevard?

Bring your brains, your wit and your happy twitter fingers, and we will happily chat March break madness with you tonight at 8 p.m. EST. Don’t forget the hashtag #linkedmoms. See you there!
