Maternal Health #LinkedMoms Chat Wed. May 14 @ 8 pm ET–#ohip4ivf #onpoli

Today I had to get blood test and give a urine sample so that I could get insurance coverage.  This is not unusual in the process of acquiring proper coverage.  I have had blood tests many times in my life. Who hasn’t?

Living in Canada we have the privilege of going to our doctor, asking for diagnostic testing and follow up.  We do this to keep ourselves healthy and to make sure that we are not creating problems down the line.

As I go through this process, I have come to appreciate our health care system and what it offers us in return: reliable and universal healthcare.  There are many of us that need only access this system sporadically.  I have had to be hospitalized only a handful of times in my life: three to give birth and two to deal with miscarriages.  For a women, these will likely be the most important times in our lives.

I have to say that when we had our first child, we had a few complications that required her to be in the neo-natal intensive care unit.  It was not for long but it was lengthy enough for me to realize that I did not want to return there anytime soon.

Beside the incubator housing our daughter was a set of tiny twins that had been delivered pre-maturely.  They were so tiny compared to our bundle of joy.  They were so fragile.  One was successful in thriving and one, Robyn (I still remember that child’s name), did not.  It broke my heart to know these parents were suffering this loss. They were there before our daughter was in the NICU and they remained there long after we were sent home.

These are the times that you reflect on the importance of good maternal healthcare.  The importance of helping a couple to become a family and wanting to make sure that they are in the best possible care and circumstance to have that baby.

I have been working on the Conceivable Dreams campaign to get one round of IVF publically funded so that other families can have the experience we have had with our children.  One round, one child… no trip to the NICU.

Join us for our continued dialog on #Linkedmoms chat as we discuss Maternal Health and what that looks like with IVF.

Please be sure and follow Conceivable Dreams on: Twitter and Facebook.  Join the conversation using the #OHIP4IVF hashtag.

We have provided some tweets that you can share with your followers to create greater awareness of why single embryo IVF is a good choice for Ontario.

Multiples are 17 times more likely to be born pre-term, require a C section and need expensive care at birth and throughout life #ohip4ivf #onpoli

On average, low birth weight twins will cost the health care system about $1M over their lifetime. #ohip4ivf #onpoli

Multiple births create significant health risks to mother and baby and are a major burden on the overall health system. #ohip4ivf #onpoli

Public funding 4 IVF will help deliver health, social and fiscal benefits well into the future. #ohip4ivf #onpoli

LinkedMoms Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to our community of LinkedMoms!

Here I was (@inkscrblr) tinkering around today working out chat topics and doing routine blog maintenance when I spied that our welcome post here was written one year ago today. So, this is our anniversary and I felt it appropriate to take a quick trip down memory lane. Oh how far we’ve come since last year.

To be 100 % clear we started LinkedMoms concept well over one year ago, but our Linked Moms blog launched October 23, 2012! You can read our Linked Moms welcome post here. It gives you a glimpse of what we are about!

So much has happened in one year! We have some amazing fans and followers to thank for that!

Let’s recap shall we? We started with an idea – that Moms want to connect and share every week and we ran with it, every Wednesday. Some of our biggest, early supporters still chime in every week. We love each and every one of you for that. We are truly grateful. We have shared some deep topics – like special needs parenting. Margarita Ibbott and Paula Schuck are both parents to children with unique abilities and needs. So we get that. We always have and always will. We have talked about some simpler topics like conference planning, turkey recipes and fun ideas for summer day camps and travel options for families. We are always family friendly and will remain so forever. We have had some amazing weekly chats _ sometimes sponsored, sometimes just opportunities to connect and share. We have grown, given out prizes, built an audience, generated some campaigns and a few case studies along the way.@Inkscrblr and @DownshiftingPRO = @Linkedmoms

Several highlights jump out for LinkedMoms first year. We travelled together to sooo many conferences. We connected and enjoyed New York in 2012 and Chicago Blogher in 2013. We generated a gorgeous new photo above from Anna Epp Photography when she set up shop recently at Blissdom Canada in Toronto. We love it. What do you think?

We also hit a business high with several twitter parties. Two outstanding parties were Staples Canada in August 2013 and Kisko Freezies in May 2013. We have many more in the works. We did a quick blogger outreach program with StorageWorx London and we can’t ait to bring you more of these in the near future. So bloggers and brands get ready for a dynamite year two of blogging and connecting here on Linked Moms. Join us every Wednesday (unless otherwise noted) and we will talk, share strategies for business and life. We will continue to bring you more brands and prizes and more information to help you build a life that is meaningful, organized and sometimes even witty and poetic! As always please remember we are only as good as our audience and we very much look forward to hearing your thoughts about brands you love and ideas you want to explore.

For Brands: You can sponsor a chat, inquire about rates and training options. You can reach us easily here, or via either of our emails: inkscrblr@rogers.com or info@downshifting.ca Our reach is now over 8 million regularly.
