Have you ever wondered about how to use LinkedIn properly?

I’m not talking about spamming people with ‘friend requests’ when you don’t even know the person.

I’m not talking about asking if you want to make thousands of dollars and only work four hours a week.

I’m not talking about posting a company as a actual personal profile.

I’m about how you, as a blogger and small business owner, can use LinkedIn to get more opportunities to write and work with leading brands.

It’s not a real social media platform you say.  Why would you think that? You are missing out on a great way to connect. It is a means to connect with people (that is social), it is away of sharing your knowledge and expertise (that is media) by being able to post on Pulse or as a status update.

LinkedIn is a direct line to those people that you may not necessarily find ‘on-line’ on a regular basis but they are important to you.  They are the brand managers, marketing managers, PR and advertising executives that work in agencies.  They are the people that make the decisions on how to spend their company’s marketing budgets.  They are busy people that are not necessarily on traditional social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest) during the day. You can find these heavyweights online but they are more likely to be on LinkedIn.  For us bloggers, it is our job to be on all of these sites for hours upon hours each day.

I have been preaching the benefits of LinkedIn since 2009.  It is my ‘first love’ in social media and continues to be an important player in how I communicate my message to the world.  This is not a platform that you can ignore or simply have an account on without maintaining.
As other platforms, there is rhyme and reason as to how to use LinkedIn and we will be discussing the importance of being and using LinkedIn for Business.

I have set up many profiles for clients so that the maximize their SEO and exposure on LinkedIn.  I have also spoken at National Conferences and given workshops on LinkedIn.  I will be sharing nuggets of knowledge on Wednesday that will help you get active with LinkedIn.  As an added bonus, I will be giving away 3 LinkedIn Profile reviews valued at $125 each.

Join us on Wednesday March 4th at 8 pm EST, 7 pm CST, 5 PST by following the #LinkedMoms #LinkedIn4Biz on LinkedMoms Chat as we discuss the virtues of using LinkedIn to improved your presence on the the network of choice for professionals.

Happy New Year and Our Hopes for 2015

1414802_10151943804420269_846153740_n

Hello and Happy New Year to all of our friends and loyal brands we have worked with over this past two and a half years.  Hard to believe, but this will be our third year working together as Linked Moms community. We are so proud of this beautiful community we have built. We wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has been with us from the start and welcome to the newcomers who are excited about joining us this year. 2015 will be an amazing year for us!

These are a few of the brands and causes we have worked with in the past year.

Linked Moms (and Dads) are savvy and smart and they want information. We know our readers well and they are a passionate bunch who love to read. Linked Moms and Dads are somewhat nostalgic when it comes to certain brands like Kisko. Remember that twitter party over a year ago? It was a ton of fun. We are also a batch of informed consumers hungry for knowledge. We joined together to learn about Staples Canada’s back to school products last year. Our Linked Moms and Dads make smart choices with their money and they enjoy learning about new products. They love travelling and they really have big hearts.

One of our most successful chats was centred around tax season with our special guest, owner of Shoebox Be Gone dishing our thoughts on how to save money and maximize deductions for bloggers and self employed business people.

This past year, in 2014, we did several great twitter parties and chats. Some of the most memorable topics were focused on health care – infertility, adoption and poverty are incredibly close to the hearts of both Margarita Ibbott and myself (Paula Schuck). Paula travelled around the world and attended a media familiarization trip in Puerto Vallarta and then flew all over Colombia with World Vision Canada before chronicling the journey on her blog and then running World Vision Canada’s blogger outreach program, which culminated in a Linked Moms twitter party for their annual Christmas gift catalogue. You can read some of Paula’s World Vision Colombia posts here.

We are both Moms to kids with special needs. We have a wealth of knowledge about social media, bloggers, health, education and parenting. We both love to read and travel. This year we attended Blissdom together again. I also attended Blogher in California in the summer and I hit Mom 2.0 for the first time ever in May. We have some conferences and personal education opportunities to look forward to again this year. We hope to see some of you again and meet some of you in person for the first time.

In the summer we hosted a Simon and Schuster summer slide twitter party.

In the spring we did a constant group of health care related topics with several patients groups focused on raising awareness for infertility, IVF, adoption and EEVA1stBC. We are very committed to building a better world for children and our conversations on line are often centred on using social media for social good. That will never change here at Linked Moms. It is part of our mission and a huge part of each of our daily lives. In 2014, our year culminated in a meaningful gifts twitter party that helped amplify discussion about child poverty and the brilliant goals of World Vision Canada.

Chicago Here We Come #Blogher13

Well, it’s almost time girls and boys! For months, we Linked Moms have been planning our conference season around Blogher ’13 and our trip to Chicago, so tonight on Twitter our #linkedmoms chat will be all about Chicago. Now, @inkscrblr – that’s me – has never ever been to Chicago. But last year’s conference as a blogher newbie was pretty spectacular in New York City so Paula (that’s me) is wondering how Chicago will even come close to topping that. But Margarita Ibbott who works in Chicago routinely tells me, it is all that and then some. So tonight we dish about Chicago and conferences. Klout routinely tells me that @downshiftingpro is an expert on Chi-town and therefore we are fortunate to have a chance to pick her brain tonight. Are you a blogger? Are you coming to Chicago for the first time? Then take a moment at 8 p.m. EST and join us on Twitter to ask her what there is to see? What should you definitely not miss? What are the important landmarks and vistas that you need to take pictures of? What should one take to Chicago? Any culinary hotspots? Legendary dishes the town is famous for? What should you pack? Killer heels? Flats? What’s the skinny on all things conference and all things Chicago? Join us at 8 p.m. #linkedmoms EST to find out.
